A Hunger Like No other – Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark Book 1)

Before I even review this book I want to say you have to read this series! I’ve only read 7 books so far (this was a year or 2 ago) but they are amazing! Even if I do not think each book is a 5 star rating they are all a good read. I will be rereading and reviewing some of the books in this series. Each of these books can be read as a standalone, but some characters do make appearances in other books.

Sometimes I literally devour books. I reread this book in 2 days, even though I knew what would happen I was hooked. This is one of those books where you resent real life from interrupting. I have such a soft spot for werewolves, especially really tall werewolves.

Just a heads up if you are not into the alpha male types who can be a tiny bit insensitive (but redeemable) this book is not for you. This book is for you if you love that sort of thing, with a couple of descriptive sex scenes.  Though there were a couple of scenes where I thought really is that possible? But then again I don’t know lol. Ok let’s not talk about the cover, I know it’s bad. These covers are the reason I’m glad they invented the Kindle otherwise I would not have read this in public (or in front of my mother ;))

Warning this is an adult book, it contains mature content, recommended for 18+ due to descriptive sex scenes

Ratings: 5 Stars

This book starts off with Lachlain chained up in Catacombs under Paris, he has been there burning the fire for 150 years. Each time he dies his immortality revives him and so he continues to suffer. He suddenly scents his mate above ground and finds the energy and will to break free from his confinement and escape. Emma is in Paris to try and find out information on her mother and father. Her mother was Valkyrie and her father was a Vampire. Lachlain hunts Emma down he is dismayed to find out she a Vampire (well half a vampire but he does not know this!). How is it possible that his mate can be a species he hates and who were behind his torture? So Lachlain decides to keep Emma as his own and that having her as a mate will be his revenge, he does not tell Emma that she is his mate. He forces (or kidnaps) Emma to take him home to Scotland and so their relationship develops from here. I’ve read reviews of people who hate/dislike Lachlain because he ‘kidnaps’ Emma, but I don’t mind it in a way. Its a paranormal romance, he doesn’t actually physically hurt her and how else is the book going to continue? Plus with the development of the story he truly regrets his actions, you can see this change in him. Kresley Cole manages to redeem him when he understands what he did wrong and how he tries to correct it. The romance in here is both hot and sweet, their are some sex scenes as mentioned before but there is also a relationship and communication behind it. The writing is well done, the story is well paced and it does not drag in any places and it keeps you hooked. Some of the lines in this book are so sweet.

“When he watched her sleeping, he often thought, My heart lies vulnerable outside my chest.”

Emma becomes a stronger character as the story goes on too. At the start she is a bit of a pushover but then you see her develop and stand up for herself and what she wants. The other characters who are in this book are also interesting and I hope they get their own stories. I do not have any little niggles with this book at all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book is a keeper as I have read it 3 times now and each time it has kept me hooked.

Read this book!

Happy Reading!

Red – Kait Nolan & Rereads

This will not be an actual review because of reasons i’ll explain in a moment. Have you ever read a book years ago and thought OMG this is the best book I have ever read? I remember reading this 3 years or so ago and thinking this is a 6 star book. I have always compared werewolves books to this one and thought I need to reread this. I actually decided to reread this and regretted it. While I did like this book, its a good 3 stars, I do not think it met up to my previous expectations that I had.

Red - Kait Nolan

Red – Kait Nolan

Synopsis:

Elodie Rose has a secret. Any day, she’ll become a wolf and succumb to the violence that’s cursed her family for centuries. For seventeen years she’s hidden who and what she is. But now someone knows the truth and is determined to exterminate her family line. Living on borrowed time in the midst of this dangerous game of hide and seek, the last thing Elodie needs is to do is fall in love. But Sawyer is determined to protect her, and the brooding, angry boy is more than what he seems. Can they outsmart a madman? And if they survive, will they find a way to beat the curse for good?

Ratings: 3 Stars

This book is told by both Elodie and Sawyer’s POV, Kait Nolan has done this well as each chapter had which character’s POV it was so it was not confusing at all.  Elodie is a strong protagonist and Sawyer is so sweet in the way that he supports her. He is always there for Elodie, and the romance between them is sweet. The writing was good, as there was always something interesting going on. I liked the sarcasm in this book, and yes there are a couple of Twilight references.

“He could be a stalker. And contrary to the heroines of some popular teen fiction, I wasn’t into that”

I’m not going to go into the story as the synopsis of this is pretty good and I do not know what to write about this book. I did like it, hence the 3 stars but I did not love it. I remember when I first read this like I said I adored this book and so by not saying much it’s giving everyone who might pick this up a chance to form their own opinions. If you like werewolves, YA or teen romance give this book a try.

I wish I had not reread this. Not because I did not enjoy it but because I ruined the feeling of this being a ridiculously amazing book. I would recommend read this as the book was a good take, but it’s not one I will pick up again.

Have you ever reread a book and regretted it?

Pushing the Limits – Katie McGarry (Pushing the Limits Book 1)

Pushing the Limits - Katie McGarry

Pushing the Limits – Katie McGarry

Synopsis:

So wrong for each other …and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

Rating: 5 Stars

What can I say about this book, honest it has left me speechless and made me cry in places. I was so engrossed in this book that I resented having to put it down to eat or sleep. I finished it in under 24 hours and the only reason it took me that long is because I had to sleep and work the next day. It is the Young Adult Contemporary romance.

There’s not much I can add on the synopsis without spoiling story away. This is based on Echo who does not remember how she can by the scars on her arms, she knows it involved her mum and she is to blame but she does not remember details. Her parents, her stepmother and the school counsellor all know what happened but will tell Echo about it. Echo hides her scars under long sleeves and no one barring a couple of friends know why she hides her arms.

Echo’s dad just wants her to move on, be the best at everything and be ‘normal’. I’m not sure how I feel about Echo’s dad at first I thought I would out right hate him but I did feel sorry for him as the story progressed, however in the end he still was not a very likeable character for me.

This books start with Echo going to a school counsellor who has been appointed to try and help Echo work through her issues. My heart broke for Echo and from the first couple of pages I knew I was going enjoy this book. It was the sarcasm and wit of Echo, these two quote being the best examples:

“My father is a control freak, I hate my stepmother, my brother is dead and my mother has … well … issues. How do you think I’m doing?” That’s how I would have loved to respond to Mrs. Collins’s question, but my father placed too much importance on appearance for me to answer honestly. Instead, I blinked three times and said, “Fine.”

“Are you ready to take the ACT on Saturday?” my father asked. Did chickens enjoy being put on trucks labeled KFC? “Sure.”

Noah ‘the bad boy’  has to see the same school counsellor as he needs to be on his best behaviour because he wants custody of his younger brother. They are in a foster home separate from him a Noah punched his first foster father. Echo is told to help tutor Noah and between this they fall in love. Noah is so intense and sweet, he is a great character. I will admit I loved this line:

Her eyes met mine again. “So what does this mean for us?” I lowered my forehead to hers. “It means you’re mine.”

I mean who could say no to that? Noah seems to be quite mature in a way, he knows what he wants and he wants to take on responsibility for his brother. This was surprising but it made me like Noah better. I really enjoyed seeing the scenes with Noah and his younger brother. The emotions could actually be felt. Even though Echo has issues, she is a strong character who is funny. The relationship developed well, it was not rushed. It was such a sweet relationship, there is no making love scenes in this book. Both characters developed as the story went on, they worked through their issues and I felt proud of them at the end of the book. The writing of this book was brilliant.

Read this book, you will not regret it. It also helped that when I purchased this Ebook from Amazon it was just £0.20. Totally worth my money and because I love it so much I will probably buy it as a paperback.

Happy Reading!!
