Exciting News – Hunger Games Props Auction on Invaluable

Inv Hunger Games.jpg

I saw on Invaluable that they have an upcoming Hunger Games props and collectables auction and the fangirl in me went crazy. I am so excited about this! I was a bit like say what? I had to share this with you all.

This auction, The World of The Hunger Games Auction, starts at 11:00 AM PST on May 20 and will feature 450 noteworthy lots. The auction features props and outfits from all four of The Hunger Games films. Items include Katniss’ Mockingjay propaganda outfit from The Mockingjay – Part 1, Katniss’ District 12 hunting bow and signature brown leather jacket from The Mockingjay – Part 2, Peeta’s arena wetsuit from Catching Fire, as well as props used by characters President Snow, Gale Hawthorne, Effie Trinket, Haymitch Abernathy, and more. This is an amazing opportunity for us fans and movie enthusiasts alike to have a chance to own these props.

I mean come on who does want props from The Hunger Games. I personally want Peeta’s Reaping costume, that would be a dream come true. I mean look at it?! There is also the fact that Josh Hutchinson has worn this, like seriously.

So it’s time for The Reaping for these iconic pieces of memorabilia from The Hunger Games. Here are a few lots for example:

Iconic “The Mockingjay” ensemble includes: a black canvas long sleeve zip-front jacket with interwoven nylon strap detail at the front, unique high collar piece descending into tiered shoulder pads, and integral black rubber forearm guard, a pair of black self-striped pants with cargo pockets retaining internal bias label marked “KE 5,” and a pair of black high-top boots with zipper and lace closures.

Lot 6: Katniss Everdeen hero wooden District 12 hunting bow from The Hunger Games

Estimated price: $8,000 – $12,000

Katniss’ signature hero wooden longbow used during her hunting trips with Gale in District 12. Measuring 59.75 in. long (unstrung), the longbow is crafted of dark stained wood and features wrapped twine reinforcement. Appears in The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as well as one of the final sequences in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

Lot 446: Katniss Everdeen hunting ensemble with bow from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2

Estimated price: $12,000 – $15,000

These are a tad bit out of my price range but there are other props that you can get your hands on that are slightly more affordable like:

New book unboxing – Forbidden Planet

My excitement knows no bounds today as I receive my first order from forbidden planet which contained one of my favourite author’s Nalini Singh books. I love her guild hunter series and have been reading these books for years, and will continue to read the series as there are more books planned. Imagine my disappointment when I learned she was coming to London, which is only an hour and a half drive away from where I live to sign Archangels Enigma at Forbidden Planet but I couldn’t go because of work. I know the joys of working life. However Forbidden Planet the wonderful people that they were selling the signed books for people who wanted them and couldn’t make it. I already own archangels enigma but I couldn’t turn a signed book by one of my favourite authors down. So I ordered it and it finally came today!

So I thought I’d share the unboxing.

Forbidden Planet unfortunately don’t have signed copies of the book left but if you live in the Uk and are interested in purchasing the normal book from them, then click here. This is one of my best book buys this year, it going to be a prized possession on my bookshelf. I paid for this book and the post is not sponsored or anything 🙂

Happy Reading! Has anyone else purchased any new signed book or any book you’re excited about recently?

When a film makes you buy a book

I went to the cinema today with some friends and saw the advert to Me before You and recognised that this was a book that i’ve been seeing around Instagram but didn’t know much about. After watching the trailer though I decided I not only have to buy the book but watch the film. I came home and ordered the book straight away. I look forward to reading it. I have a feeling I know how this is going to end. I’m going to end up in the same boat as The Fault in Our Stars, but we shall have to see.

Me after The Fault in Our Stars:

Has this ever happened to you? Have you made a book purchase based on a film or a trailer?

Signed up to my 30 day Free Trial

Screen Shot 2016-01-30 at 09.48.26.png

Based on all the positive comments I received about Kindle Unlimited I decided to bite the bullet and sign up for the 30 day free trial. I’m glad I did as it means I can “borrow” the new Natasha Anders book A Ruthless Proposition as I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy the book. I love Natasha Anders book The Unwanted Wife but I found I didn’t like the 2nd book in the series A Husband’s Regret, the hero was a total jerk in that and I thought the 3rd book in the series His Unlikely Lover was ok. So her books can be a bit hit and miss and I’m excited I get to read the new book but not have to commit to buying it. I will if I enjoy it but I like the freedom of choice.

Screen Shot 2016-01-30 at 09.48.46

I had a quick look through the titles that are available on Kindle Unlimited (as I can access the list now I’ve started a free trial) and i would say if you are looking to read the Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games Series, The Mortal Instruments series or The Maze Runner series but don’t know if you want to buy the book. Sign up to Kindle Unlimited as you can borrow all the series I mentioned. So you can get the free trial and if you like it then after it £7.99 per month. there’s no contract with it so you can cancel at any point.

I will let you know if I continue with Kindle Unlimited and if I think it will be worth subscribing too

Happy Reading!

Does any have Kindle Unlimited?

Kindle unlimited

Does anyone have or use Kindle Unlimited as I am considering whether to get it or not. As I read so many books I think it may be worth investing the £7.99 a month for it but am not sure.

For all of you who don’t know what Kindle Unlimited is, it is basically like a e-library from which you can borrow up to 10 ebooks (and some audio books) at a time to read and then you can return them once you’re done for a monthly fee of £7.99 if you’re from the UK or $9.99 if you’re from the USA. It’s described as a Netflix for books.

I buy ebooks more often now due to my lack of space for another bookshelf. If I don’t enjoy an ebook then I delete it which can be a waste of money because unlike a physical book I cannot sell it as second hand or donate it. So the idea of borrowing them seems better to me, though I would have to pay the monthly fee. The thing I worry about is whether there are enough books in the Kindle Unlimited to make it worth my while in subscribing to, which is why I thought I would ask if anyone has Kindle Unlimited or has heard anything about it? Amazon don’t make it easy to search for which books are included in Kindle Unlimited unless you search for each book individually and check  which is a bit of a nuisance. I did look at Winter and Red Queen because I thought these are books I would for example be interested in but it looks like these two books are not offered on the Kindle Unlimited. The next book in the Unwanted series by Natasha Anders is offered though, but the book would cost only me £3.98 if I purchased it. Umm decisions decisions!

As Amazon are offering a 30 day free trial I am debating signing up for it and then seeing if I find it worth while or not. I just thought I get all of your thoughts on it? 😀

My dream literary collection

I was contacted by Ryan at invaluable.com quite a while ago and have been meaning to put up this post for a while. Sorry it’s taken so long to do! Invaluable are an auction site for amazing collectable items like rare and first edition books, check it out. Here’s the link to the first edition books page: www.invaluable.com/first-edition-books/sc-EWAP7WGAFQ/

Ryan asked what my dream literary collection would look like which got me thinking. Doing this post confirmed that I need to read more classic books. My dream collection includes more newer books.

My dream collection would include:

  1. The complete set of the Harry Potter collector’s signed edition deluxe  by J K Rowling

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 10.10.17

As with all the other posts I have seen about a dream collection mine would also include the original signed Harry Potter series. I mean how could you not want this? I mean just look at those books! Even if I could not get the entire series. I would want Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for sure.

2. Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien First Edition

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 10.31.30

I admit I have to as yet read these book but I would love to own the original editions, they are beautiful. In my family Lord of the rings is a massive deal, well the films are anyway. I would love love love to have these books.

3. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The foiled edition

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 10.34.42

I love the hunger games series and when I saw these books I wanted them. They are beautiful covers with an amazing story. I plan to make my children read these books when I actually have children and they are old enough to appreciate the story.

4. His Dark Materials in its first illustrated hardback edition

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 10.39.45

These books are abit controversial as there are those who oppose this book as they say it promoted atheism and attacked Christianity. This book series has been on the banned list. I personally adore these books. The story is amazing and I accept that it is what it is, which is fiction. These hardback look amazing and this is a story that would stay with you forever and it comes illustrated, who does not like illustrated books?

5. Illustrated Animal Farm by George Orwell

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 10.47.01

Ok this book is not expensive but this would need feature in my dream literary collection. My dad read this book when he was a little boy and he says it moved him, he has always wanted me to read this book too. He’s told me the story many many times and so I haven’t read the book yet. I would want this book to read and for the sentimental value it would hold for me.

Thats all I can think of for the moment. If you had a choice which books would be in your dream literary collection? I honestly would never leave my house (or my bookshelf) if I was to own all these books.

It was lovely to talk to Ryan from invaluable and sorry again it has taken my so long to put up this post. Are there any books that you think are missing from my collection?

New books ordered

As you all know I put myself on a book buying ban and I am only allowed to buy a book if I sell ones I already have and do not want to pay for it or read 5 books. Well both things happened this weekend. I have managed to read 5 books on my TBR (some reviews are pending but I’ll get round to them) and I sold some of my other books on Ebay. This means I can buy 2 books! Woohoo!

First of all I need some sort of medal. I have resisted purchasing the Illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone even though everyone on Instagram and my friends are going on about it. Hopefully I will get this for Christmas or if I sell more books or read 5 more from my TBR. On a side note it is on offer for £15.00 on Book Depository at the moment. The link is here if you want to check it out

So the books I purchased are: Winter and Archangel’s Enigma. I cannot wait to read these books. I am so excited for Naassir’s story. Not as much as I want Bluebell’s story but still. Nalini Singh is an amazing writer and I look forward to reading this book. I also have to say I love that the cover of this book matches the others in this series. It such an awesome cover too.

Winter is the continuation of Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles and I am so so excited for it. I really need to post my reviews of the previous books but I’ll get to that! Same with this book, how amazingly cool is the cover of this book?

Interested in the two books I mentioned? I have added the synopsis of both below with a link to Book Depository if you want to check them out (and not I am not being sponsored or paid to include this). I ordered my books from them too.

Book Depository have Winter at the price of £6.29 at the moment which is an amazing offer for the paperback book if you’re interested in purchasing it.

Archangel’s Enigma (Guild Hunter, #8) – Nalini Singh

Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.

Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows…and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) – Marissa Meyer

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Happy Book Mail!!
