A Hunger Like No other – Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark Book 1)

Before I even review this book I want to say you have to read this series! I’ve only read 7 books so far (this was a year or 2 ago) but they are amazing! Even if I do not think each book is a 5 star rating they are all a good read. I will be rereading and reviewing some of the books in this series. Each of these books can be read as a standalone, but some characters do make appearances in other books.

Sometimes I literally devour books. I reread this book in 2 days, even though I knew what would happen I was hooked. This is one of those books where you resent real life from interrupting. I have such a soft spot for werewolves, especially really tall werewolves.

Just a heads up if you are not into the alpha male types who can be a tiny bit insensitive (but redeemable) this book is not for you. This book is for you if you love that sort of thing, with a couple of descriptive sex scenes.  Though there were a couple of scenes where I thought really is that possible? But then again I don’t know lol. Ok let’s not talk about the cover, I know it’s bad. These covers are the reason I’m glad they invented the Kindle otherwise I would not have read this in public (or in front of my mother ;))

Warning this is an adult book, it contains mature content, recommended for 18+ due to descriptive sex scenes

A mythic warrior who’ll stop at nothing to possess her…

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he’s waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy…

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents—until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae—and their notorious dark desires—ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire…

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

Ratings: 5 Stars

This book starts off with Lachlain chained up in Catacombs under Paris, he has been there burning the fire for 150 years. Each time he dies his immortality revives him and so he continues to suffer. He suddenly scents his mate above ground and finds the energy and will to break free from his confinement and escape. Emma is in Paris to try and find out information on her mother and father. Her mother was Valkyrie and her father was a Vampire. Lachlain hunts Emma down he is dismayed to find out she a Vampire (well half a vampire but he does not know this!). How is it possible that his mate can be a species he hates and who were behind his torture? So Lachlain decides to keep Emma as his own and that having her as a mate will be his revenge, he does not tell Emma that she is his mate. He forces (or kidnaps) Emma to take him home to Scotland and so their relationship develops from here. I’ve read reviews of people who hate/dislike Lachlain because he ‘kidnaps’ Emma, but I don’t mind it in a way. Its a paranormal romance, he doesn’t actually physically hurt her and how else is the book going to continue? Plus with the development of the story he truly regrets his actions, you can see this change in him. Kresley Cole manages to redeem him when he understands what he did wrong and how he tries to correct it. The romance in here is both hot and sweet, their are some sex scenes as mentioned before but there is also a relationship and communication behind it. The writing is well done, the story is well paced and it does not drag in any places and it keeps you hooked. Some of the lines in this book are so sweet.

“When he watched her sleeping, he often thought, My heart lies vulnerable outside my chest.”

Emma becomes a stronger character as the story goes on too. At the start she is a bit of a pushover but then you see her develop and stand up for herself and what she wants. The other characters who are in this book are also interesting and I hope they get their own stories. I do not have any little niggles with this book at all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book is a keeper as I have read it 3 times now and each time it has kept me hooked.

Read this book!

Happy Reading!
