Synopsis:
All Alessandro de Lucci wants from his wife is a son but after a year and a half of unhappiness and disillusionment, all Theresa de Lucci wants from her ice cold husband is a divorce. Unfortunate timing, since Theresa is about to discover that she’s finally pregnant and Alessandro is about to discover that he isn’t willing to lose Theresa.

Note: The ebook and the paperback book version of this book is slightly different. The story is the same but there are 2 or 3 scenes in the paperback version that are not in the ebook version I have of this book. My preference is the paperback version as it includes a flashback of how Sandro and Theresa met. Also there are some descriptive love scenes in this book, if you do not want to read it you can skip them as they’re not over the top.
One word for this book…Amazing! It’s such a emotional and very angst read, but in a good way. I am always an emotional wreck when I read this book. It without fail will make me cry and I’ve read it about 5 times already.
After a year and a half of marriage Theresa is finally tired of being a “doormat” and being with her cold husband, who allows her no affection. She’s not allowed to casually touch him, cuddle or kiss him and all Alessandro wants from her is a son. Theresa wants a divorce but Sandro refuses. Sandro hates her so much because he was blackmailed into marrying her but Theresa is unaware of this, though Sandro thinks she knows all about it.When it comes to light that Theresa is unaware of this, that is when Sandro really has to think about what he wants to do.
At the start of the novel I really hated sandro, he was deliberately cruel to Theresa.
“The same timid little Theresa, who can’t even give me the only thing I’ve ever wanted from this pathetic excuse for a marriage.”
“I have no respect for you, Theresa… not even as the potential mother of my child because, quite frankly, you can’t even do that right.”
But that is the beauty of this book, you go from hating Sandro to doing a complete 160 and loving him. He turns into such a wonderful husband and dedicated person. You end up rooting for him. I like seeing the turn around in Sandro. He does grovel and try to fix his relationship. One of the best points of this book is that Sandro admits that he’s wrong, its not brushed over and he admits he is cruel to Theresa when they married.
“Silly little Theresa,” he chided softly. “I may not have said it much, or at all for that matter but you’re so beautiful I ache just looking at you sometimes.”
“I’m trying to fix this, cara,” he finally whispered, the words almost torn from him.
Theresa grows as a character through out the book. At the start she stutters to even as Alessandro for a divorce but once she does she starts to stand up for herself and develop into a strong will female and won’t allow Sandro to walk all over her anymore.
“I’m your husband…”
“No. You are not my husband,” she interrupted in a voice thickened with hatred and tears. “You have never been my husband. A husband loves, honours and cherishes! A husband is a lover and a champion….Look into the next room if you want to see what a real husband is, because you are no such thing!”
The writing style is good and I do wish we got to see Sandro’s POV as I would love to know what was going through his mind, but even though we didn’t it doesn’t take anything away from the book.
I could just go on and on about this book because I feel its underrated and does not get enough attention. Defiantly give this book a read to find out what happens with Sandro and Theresa.
