Dr. Angeline Hemming is a beautiful, sassy, no-nonsense type of girl who has risen from a difficult past to become one of Chicago’s most successful and respected criminal profilers. In exchange for free commercials to promote her favorite charitable causes, Angel answers calls and gives relationship advice on a Friday night radio program.
Alexander Avery is a gorgeous and successful corporate genius who doesn’t believe in love. When his girlfriend-of-convenience calls into Angel’s program, he is furious with the show’s host who doles out (what he considers) blind advice, without knowing all the facts… and he decides to give her a piece of his mind, and his side of the story!
When Angel informs Alex he’s the one in need of a much-deserved lesson, all hell breaks loose as these two type-A personalities battle it out for control over minds and hearts, and yes, in bed. Not only are they fighting each other at every turn, but they are also struggling to uphold the convictions they each live by.
It’s unclear who is stronger, but both must discover that to get what they desperately want, they may have to give a little… or a lot.
I really loved this book, I’m always pleasantly surprised when I come across a free book that I think I would have paid full price for the book and still think I got the better deal. This book I know is going to become a reread. I am also going to download part two as soon as possible so I can find out what happens next.
I’m not going to say too much on the book because I do not want to spoil the story. Alex and Angel first ‘meet’ in a store but do not have a chance to talk but are instantly attracted to each other. Angel is a criminal psychologist, who does a weekly radio show where she gives advice in exchange for some needed air time for advertisements for child and domestic abuse. Alex Avery does not do emotions but he is a one women man, he does not mess around when in a relationship. His definition of a relationship is something needed to scratch an itch, he makes it clear to his girlfriends not to expect more from him. In exchange for sex, his girlfriend gets to be seen with him at all the major parties, treated to gifts and have access to large amounts of money. It does not hurt that he is also sexy as hell. Whitney Alex’s current girlfriend calls into Angel’s show to complain about how Alex treats her and is after relationship advice. To be honest like I said Alex is upfront about his relationship so Whitney knows what to expect but she’s annoyed he does not take her to more parties and she does not have a bigger status. Angel gives good advice, she says to try and talk to Alex and if they have a proper relationship then they can work it out. Alex is annoyed when he hears Whitney is getting relationship advice and so a week later calls into the show himself to give Angel a piece of her mind. When Angel and Alex meet sparks fly.
Angel is a strong character who takes no nonsense from anyone and knows what she wants. I do feel that at points she was too strong and was pushing Alex away even though he is trying his hardest to be in a relationship with her.
“I don’t want you to lose yourself, honey. I’m trying to find you. To keep you with me.”
I think Alex is an amazing character. I just cannot explain how awesome I think he is. His had some amazing dialogues and he won me completely over when he said he wanted to know more about Angel herself.
“Before, when he’d seen her the first time, he’d wanted her body; now his interest went far beyond the physical. The realization was amazing and left him reeling. He wanted to talk to her, to learn about her, and to have time to get to know her”
My niggle with the book was how Angel was not able to accept that maybe Alex did want a proper relationship with her rather than just a no strings attached one. I understand her point of view and she’s been burned before and Alex was into no emotions just scratching a inch type of relationships, but you could tell for his behaviour and words that he wanted something more with Angel and that she was special to him, even if Alex did not admit in many words he wanted much more with Angel he defiantly showed her. However this was a slight niggle and did not detract from the enjoyment of the book.
The ending of this book I found quite abrupt, however I know that there is another book in the series and I will be purchasing this to find out what happens to these two. Kahlen Aymes has written a wonderful book, the storyline was interesting and I do recommend this book.
